The compact crossover received the lowest score in the organization’s annual owner survey, while Fiat came in last overall among brands.

Respondents noted a litany of issues ranging from a rough-shifting automatic transmission to poor heating and an unimpressive infotainment system.

Ironically, whether it’s coincidental or the cause of its apparent woes, the 500 L is manufactured at a Fiat factory in Serbia that once produced the Yugo GV, considered by many to be one of, if not the worst car ever sold in the United States.

Fiat has spent approximately $1.5 billion updating the facility, but reviews of the 500 L regularly cite its low-quality feel.
