According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel is “not a state of all its citizens” but exclusively of the Jews. “According to the national state law passed by us, Israel is the nation-state of the Jewish people -and only that,” Netanyahu wrote on Instagram on Sunday.

There is “no problem with the Arab citizens of Israel,” stressed the Prime Minister. They have the same rights as all other residents -but it is not their state. Netanyahu repeated his remarks later on the sidelines of the weekly Cabinet meeting.

This was preceded by a dispute Netanyahu  with the presenter Red Sela. “What’s the problem with the Arabs?” Sela wrote on Instagram. “When the hell will someone in this government tell the public that Israel is a land of all its citizens and all human beings are born equal?” The reupon, according to Selas in the network hate reactions accumulated.

Moderator Sela received support from prominent Israelis such as Gal Gadot, the lead actress in the movie “Wonder Woman”. “Love your neighbor as yourself,” wrote Gadot, according to media reports on the contribution of Sela. “It’s not about right or left, Jew or Arab, secular or religious,” Gadot wrote. What is important is “a dialogue for peace, for equality, for mutual tolerance”.

Netanyahu is under pressure because Israel’s Attorney General intends to charge him with corruption, albeit subject to a hearing. Nevertheless, he seeks re-election on 9 April.

According to polls, the new center party, white-blue, is in the lead just a month before the election. Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party must expect to become only the second strongest force. However, according to polls, the right-wing camp still has a narrow majority in the Knesset.
