Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray advised the U.S. government to respect the rights of Mexicans. He urged United States to allow a path to legality for undocumented migrants. On the other side, Mexicans 50 consulates across United States opened legal aid center for its citizen to rescue.
Videgaray commented on this move that, “Today we are facing a situation that can paradoxically represent an opportunity, when suddenly a government wants to apply the law more severely. We are not promoting illegality. It is becoming more than evident that to apply the law, which is the obligation of any state, would also imply a real economic damage to this country which highlights the need for immigration reform, an immigration reform that resolves once and for all the legal status of the people.”
President Donald Trump had issued order to introduce tougher deportation for illegal immigrants in his first week of office. He repeatedly vowed for this move during his presidential election campaign.
Earlier, Foreign Minister recorded his protest to United States Secretary of State Tillerson and Homeland Security Chief Kelly about this move of President Donald Trump and express his worries and irritation.
