At least two people have been killed after a plane crashed into an apartment building in Ohio. The small business jet was descending when it clipped an overhead wire, causing it to crash into a housing block.
It then hit an embankment behind the house, setting another property on fire.
The 10-seat Hawker H25 jet had taken off from Dayton and was due to land at Akron Fulton International Airport, Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Bill Haymaker said.
He confirmed that no one was inside the small brick apartment building or the other home that caught fire, and there were no known injuries on the ground.
Investigators are trying to determine how many people were on the plane, but they have confirmed two deaths.
Witnesses reported feeling the explosion several blocks away.
“I heard a big bang, and my couch shook twice,” said Carrie Willis.
Another woman who lives about a block away said she saw the plane crash into the building and burst into flames.
“This plane just dropped out of the sky, veered and crashed into the apartment building,” Roberta Porter said.
Another witness, Jesse Moon, told WEWS-TV that he was six blocks away when the plane went down and he ran over to the area.
“Everything was gone,” he said. “It looked like a bomb exploded.”
The cause of the crash is still unknown.
